Passport to Nature Frequently Asked Questions:
- Q: What is the Passport to Nature?
-
A: The Passport to Nature is a follow-up activity to motivate and inspire students (and families) to continue learning outdoors on Maui after having attended the Keiki ECO Conference on February 19, 2010 at Kalama Park in Kihei, Maui
- Q: How does my child use it?
- A: The Passport to Nature booklet will be distributed to students who participate in Keiki ECO Conference through their classroom teacher.
-
Inside the booklet, select organizations who provider nature-based educational and recreational experiences welcoming the students in the months following the February event take place in a variety of scheduled and self-guided programs, outings, volunteer efforts, etc.
- Q: How many places does my child need to visit?
-
A: All students who document a minimum of 6 (six) Passport to Nature experiences by the end of the school year will be eligible to participate in a special outdoor recreation event. There are options in the Passport booklet that are self-guided and free of charge. It is a great way for parents and kids to spend some time enjoying nature together.
- Q: Do multiple visits to the same place count?
-
A: Repeat visits to a nature center or park are great ways to compare changes over time. For the Passport to Nature program, one visit per coupon will be validated.
- Q: Is there an expiration date?
-
A: Students have until the end of the school year in June 2010 to validate a minimum of six coupons in the Passport to Nature. All students who meet the designated minimum participation level by that time will be recognized with a free pass on a special Pacific Whale Foundation Eco-Adventure.
- Q: How does my student redeem the Passport?
-
A: At the end of the school year, bring the validated Passport to Nature to the Pacific Whale Foundation office in Ma’alaea between the hours of 9:00am and 2:00 pm. Your name and contact number will be added to the manifest for a special free Eco-Adventure snorkel cruise to be held in August prior to the start of school. This trip will be led by the Education Department and parent chaperones are not required, though they are welcome to come along at the kama’aina rate.
- Q: What if I loose the Passport?
- A: You can come by the Education Department office in Ma’alaea M-F from 9-2 and give us your teachers name so we can verify your participation in the ECO-Conference. We’ll be happy to replace your Passport. Unfortunately, you’ll probably have to start all over with your validation stamps unless you’ve kept a record of the dates and places you went for validation. Think of it as a lesson in keeping track of your stuff!
